Several species of Longjawed Orb Weavers live in the states. I'm not a
spider expert, so I'll leave the more specific taxonomy to the experts,
and lump all of mine together.
This first Longjawed Orb Weaver Spider lives on my
Cnidoscolus bush. It hides
lengthwise along the stem under the flower, but spreads out and moves
very fast when poked.
I found this next spider protecting the eggs
she'd laid under my Vigna luteola
leaf. She was easier to photograph because she didn't want to leave her
young.
I was looking at
Citrus
Fruit-piercer Moth Caterpillars on a
Pond Apple Tree when I noticed
these curled stuck-together leaves. Those are generally the home of some
creature or another. This time, it was a
spider.
The white ball beneath her is her egg sac. There were a few tiny
spiderlings around her, but without a macro lens, they were too small to
photograph clearly. Perhaps next year...
