This tiny
Palm Warbler is
standing on a bit of floating Water Lettuce surrounded by Duckweed. The
next time I visited the Water Lettuce was covered in blue. My best guess
is that the blue is an herbicide; I hope it won't harm the
Red-winged Blackbirds
I saw standing on it.
...and here a Male
Boat-tailed Grackle and a
Little Blue Heron
stand on the bank amidst the
Duckweed and the Water Lettuce:
Water
lettuce is considered a problem plant. It grows so thick that the
water quality does down enough to reduce the fish population.
That's not good for wading
birds who eat fish.
I guess that blue stuff worked, because I haven't seen any water lettuce
recently.
Did you see the
turtle
peeking up beside the water lettuce in the photo above?
