Elderberry is a big bush, or a small tree, depending on your point of view, and how tall you let it grow. Mine all still look like floppy bushes. I think the flowers are beautiful, which more than makes up for the untamed look of the whole plant.

My butterflies are indifferent to the Elderberry blooms, but the mockingbirds seem to lurk near the plant often enough to make me think they're nibbling a berry or two.
