This Red-bellied woodpecker family used to visit regularly until the tree they lived in (which was dead) got cut down for safety reasons (hurricane territory here.) I thought they were gone, but this March O8 a female Red-bellied, I presume one of the original birds I'd been watching, came and perched on my roof with that, "Well, where's my treat?" expression:

Here she is on the roof (left), and then on the porch wondering where the peanuts went, and trying to figure out if Brazil Nuts are edible:

It didn't take her long to decide that they were food:

The female Red Bellied Woodpecker has red on the back of her head, but not on top, as these pictures clearly show.

The male has red all over the top of his head.

This female Red Bellied Woodpecker is in her nest in a dead topless palm tree right beside the boardwalk at Green Cay Wetlands.
