Banded Sphinx Moth Eumorpha fasciatus
Banded Sphinx Moth, Eumorpha fasciatus
I found this moth a couple of years ago. I've since gotten a better camera, so I can't wait for the Banded Sphinx Moth Caterpillar I'm raising now to make a cocoon and turn into another Banded Sphinx Moth so I can get better photos of the adult moth!
While we wait for mine to grow up, there are more Banded Sphinx Moth Caterpillar photos on their Primrose host plant page, and if you want more information about this and other Sphinx Moths, visit Bill's Sphinx Moth Site.

I was all excited about my Banded Sphinx Moth caterpillar. Everything was going well - I fed it fresh Primrose daily, cleaned its bug box, and it was nice and big so I thought it was ready to make a cocoon. Then it just got mushy and died. Gross!

Well, I'll keep my eyes on my Primrose and try to find another so I can get photos of its cocoon.

Raising caterpillars does not always work; check out my page on things that go wrong.
