Rice Bugs Genus Stenocoris

I found three of these long slender bugs outside one hot summer evening. They were just sitting there on a wall. I got close enough to this one to show you how large it is, but then it flew away. Sorry, that's more boring than most of my bugs. If I see them do anything interesting I'll post an update.

I was way off on my first guess about what this bug is. I wasn't sure, so I sent a picture to Bug Guide where I found out that it's a Rice Bug. I have a lot to learn about bugs, but I think that  finding them first and then finding out about them is a fun approach for now, at least until I try to pick up one that I should have learned about first...

I tried to get a picture of the proboscis of one of these little rice bugs, but none were willing to let me. The best I got was this not so great side view:
