Xanthomelanodes Fly
Black and orange Xanthomelanodes Fly
Xanthomelanodes Fly with yellow halters and big red eyes
This odd looking bug perched on my Firebush ever so briefly. I kept waiting for it to close its wings, but it didn't. It turned, and I leaned in slowly to look closer without scaring it away. Its yellow halters really stood out, so I decided that it was a fly.
Peculiar bug with wings that stick out, Tachinid fly, genus Xanthomelanodes
It paused on a red Firebush flower, but then zoomed away.
Xanthomelanodes Fly paused on a brilliant red Firebush flower
My best guess on an ID  for this black winged, orange fly is Xanthomelanodes something or other.
