Wow, what's that bug peeking out from under the Cassia leaf? It's HUGE!

It sure looks like a horsefly. I wasn't sure if I should take a picture, or run.

I was familiar with dark horseflies; they hurt when they bite. Then, not too long ago I found lime green horseflies. Now, unfortunately in my yard, I've found this striped horsefly. I startled it with the flash while it was under the leaf, and it flew to a nearby leaf where it posed nicely several times before flying off out of sight. At least it didn't bite!

I like a lot of my bugs, but it's hard to find a reason to like this one. I guess it would make decent bird food?
