I stood, listening to the hum and buzz that often accompanies a warm
summer afternoon, and these little bugs
with wiggly wings darting here
and there caught my eye.
One little fruit fly sat on a Spanish Needles
leaf and danced like it
was itchy. A wing went one way, the other another way...
I snapped a shot as one of the little picture-winged flies
down a flower bud; you can see it's rounded knob of a white halter
sticking out beneath its other wing.
I think these little fruit flies are in the genus Xanthaciura.
