Sprinkler Ducks speckle lakes and canals throughout South Florida.
First time Florida visitors frequently point out the large birds.
Sometimes it's the chuckles that give it away, other times it's the fact
that the birds never move, and some people still think they saw the
biggest duck they've ever seen.
This duck would have been a clue too. See the two small baby
turtles
sunning on the duck's back?
This bird on the bird is a
Double-crested Cormorant. They're interesting
birds; they swim.
These big ducks are bobbers designed to blend in.
They are duck floats, or sprinkler ducks, that attach to the PVC pipe
people run from their sprinkler pumps to local surface water sources
like canals and ponds.
